The copy of this book that I purchased came with the cd conveniently glued to the binding. There is simply no way to extract the cd without damaging it.

Good, but difficult to follow unless you are a programmer. But I didn’t learn a great deal from it and enjoyed the challenge.

If you are a programmer and know everything there is to know about computers, then this book will help you understand more about hacking. If you don’t know much about programmer, or even if you have amateur experience with it, dream on. This book is for experts who understand the language. I thought I could do it and it’s an extremely hard read. Many of the words in the book were not referenced so you have no clue what the author means by anything. Although some chapters were helpful, not worth my money.

The Book give a good explanation of the concepts, however, the book kind of fail on the illustrations and samples base on general knowdleged

I like the idea of the book. But it gives only an overwiew or better an introduction into some hacking techniques. There is far more to tell about buffer overflows, for example. I fully agree that its contents isn’t very new and that most papers are a little bit overloaded with printscreens or other stuff like that. But if you can live with them, it is not that bad.
